Time to unplug

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” Anne Lamott

Are you checking your phone or email this evening? Have you considered doing something other than looking at screens to relax?

I do it too - I tell myself I'm winding down from the day. The trouble is, scrolling doesn't always wind me down - rather, it can wind me right up!

So why do we need dedicated rest and relaxation? Stress has a way of building up in every nook and cranny of the body and mind until it finds its way out - maybe as pain, irritation, tiredness and eventually, illness. For me, it's headaches or a flare of neck or back pain. Or a building ache in the jaw - I'm a teeth grinder :(

How about switching off from work, phone, or Netflix for one evening and joining me for an hour of sweet support, relaxation and breathing?

Whilst a simple hour of restorative yoga isn't enough to negate all the stresses in our lives, after intentional and generous rest you can begin to remember that elusive feeling that has become unfamiliar to many - peace, calm and wakeful relaxation. When you start to realise that it is possible to embody that state (without being asleep or being on holiday!) you begin to wonder why you didn't invest in rest before.
