Making Lemonade, a Yoga Strap and a Video

Chang Park | NOV 10, 2023

My colleague Ed sent me a picture of a cute poster last week. In it, it says, "When life gives you a lemon... You must eat the lemon (all of it, including the skin)." 🍋

Last week, I accidentally sent an email with a video recording. What a lemon I am. Yes, sorry to keep going on about it. Among the emails I received last week, some people thought it was a lovely gift and a welcome surprise.

Inspired by this, I decided to go with the flow, make lemonade or my equivalent - and record a video or two from the beautiful barn where I was retreating. This prompt from the universe to gift a restorative taster means this week's offering is a restorative how-to video, and with it, an invitation to try it out.

Whilst there, I've been meaning to do a video for you on how to tie up a yoga strap/belt for AGES - yes, there is a correct way. If you always find yourself slipping out of your strap and it doesn't hold like it's meant to, please watch. Once you know how to strap a strap, it becomes one of the best props ever!

Video 1 (4 mins): YOGA STRAP

Passcode: $E=^m28Y

(p.s. I keep referring to this belt as a D-Ring. 🍋Sorry, being a lemon again🍋 I don't mean D-ring; what I mean is a belt with a WIDE metal buckle.)

Video 2 (33 mins): SUPTA BADDHA KONASANA

Passcode: $E=^m28Y

This second video will make use of our correctly strapped strap (and other options if you don't own a yoga belt) and will focus on one pose, Supta Baddha Konasana.

It will be slow and pedantic, just like you're used to from me 😜

SBK is a great taster pose for restorative yoga, as well as something you can enjoy stand-alone anytime you like. Sometimes if I am particularly frazzled, this might be the only pose I opt for, to steep in for around 20 minutes. And I am reborn.

Whether you are a veteran practitioner or new to this practice, I hope this video will give you the basics about props, set-up, benefits and a few insights into this beautifully supportive pose. Once you have the know-how, you don’t need me, and you won’t need the video. But if you like the company, of course, you can reuse the recording - I'll keep it live for the winter.

And just because I can't seem to stop apologising 🍋, the Zoom video quality isn't the best - next time I'm compelled to video, I promise better picture quality.

Now, before you watch, here are the props for SBK (or their equivalents):

A bolster, 2 if you have them (or 1-2 pillows)

Many blankets (3 preferable, the more the cosier)

A yoga strap

Many cushions, or 4 foam pads

A yoga brick

An eye pillow

Warm clothing, including socks and jumper

Dive in and enjoy.

Let's practise.
